There is continued pressure on the care sector, and the Association
of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) has called for a long-term,
sustainable funding solution. As more residential places disappear, at-home care
provision is likely to grow…
published by ADASS highlights a number of issues. One statistic is
alarming. In the first six months of 2019, over 7000 people have been affected
by care homes closing across 80 administrative areas.
That puts pressure on councils, the families of people who
need care services, and of course the service users themselves.
Side by Side Care was established because we had family members who needed the right kind of support, at home, and in a place, they felt safe. With more and more residential care homes struggling to keep operating, the need for at-home care will grow.
should be available to all
We have all seen the numbers involved when it comes to
austerity and cutbacks. The ADASS survey also revealed that adult social care
directors from the various councils in England have needed to make a staggering
£7 billion of savings to balance the books.
President of ADASS, Julie Ogley, observed that too many “difficult decisions based on dwindling resources” were been forced on decision-makers. That doesn’t seem right in 2019. There should not have to be choices where people’s care is concerned.
Everyone should be able to access and choose how they get
the care they need.
Because at-home care gives additional flexibility, to both service
users and those paying for the services, it is becoming an increasingly popular
option for people to receive the support they need.
In some cases, it is the best option. Service users and
their families can identify the times when care and support are required. The
best use of available funds can then be made.
Where Side by Side Care is concerned, we always aim to give
people the best possible levels of care – with our approach based on helping
the people who use our services to feel as independent as possible.
It also means that our service users can remain in communities
where they feel safe and loved.
