Loneliness in the UK is rising, especially for elderly people who have lost partners and live away from other family members. We can all help, and it’s particularly important to Side by Side Care.
The thing with loneliness is that it’s often hidden. It’s shut away behind closed doors.
Of course, it’s not just the elderly who can feel alone. It’s something that can affect all of us. However, for those with a disability, or someone who is frail and afraid of falling, getting out to meet other people can be a challenge. They stay at home often with little or no human contact.
Whatever happened to making time for people?
How does Side by Side Care help?
At Side by Side Care we provide at-home support to people living in Crewe and Nantwich who need services to remain independent in their own homes. That’s our job.
However, for us it’s much more than that. Of course, we help out with day-to-day domestic tasks, we provide support with personal care, help with medication and support people with all other aspects of their care needs.
We also talk. We chat. We start conversations.
Sometimes, the personal touch is so much more important to our service users. Making someone feel special, wanted and involved is something we all enjoy doing.
After all, we’re there to support people – real people. People who use our services are often isolated and unable to get around in the community.
From the moment we walk through the door there’s a smile, a big “hello” and often a cup of tea is involved to get the conversation started.
Help stop loneliness
If you’d like to support and care for people as a living, why not come and work with us around Crewe and Nantwich. We employ local people – to support local people.
Otherwise, there are plenty of great initiatives out there that can make a difference.
Take the Contact the Elderly project. They have held tea parties around the UK since 1965, supporting more than 100,000 lonely older people. They are a national charity with around 11,000 volunteers who organise monthly get-togethers to help tackle loneliness and social isolation.

If you’d like more regular support for someone in your family who lives alone, we can help. Whether it’s a few hours each day, weekend support, or respite care to give someone a break – come and discuss your options with our team.
